Dress Code
We will follow the dress code as provided below and take steps to see that time is not wasted on dress code matters. Parents can be of great assistance by checking to see that students are dressed properly when they come to school. We want all students to be clean and neat when they come to school. Students that do not wear their uniform will not be allowed to attend class and will report directly to the In-School-Suspension room. The way a student dresses has a direct impact on his readiness to learn. CHA seeks to have a positive learning environment for all students.
*Students must wear their uniform to school every day. (See Friday exception)
*The uniform shirt must be solid colored green or white that has the CHA logo and purchased from Holmes Specialty.
* Nothing can be worn over the uniform shirt except a jacket or coat.
*There are no restrictions on jackets and coats; however, distasteful or distractive ones (as per the discretion of CHA faculty and/or administration) are not permitted.
*Under shirts may be worn but can not extend outside of the shirt sleeve or collar.
*Girls will not be required to tuck in their shirts because of the cut unless they are wearing a longer cut boys shirt; then, it must be tucked in.
*Skorts (skirt and short combo) must be purchased from Holmes Specialty.
*No cargo pants or shorts are permitted. (Cargo items are ones with pockets that hang out from the normal contour.) Flat pockets on the legs of shorts are permitted.
*Shorts can be no shorter than two inches above the knee.
*No cut-off shorts or shorts with frayed legs are permitted.
*No leggings or stockings can be worn under the shorts or skorts.
*Boys must wear a brown belt with their shirts tucked in. (Kindergarten students can be an exception since most of their bottoms are elastic.)
*Boys and girls can wear tennis shoes and brown leather shoes. No crocs or flip-flops permitted (Flip-flops are described as shower shoes.) If any student has a question, please see the administration.
*Only hunter green, white, or khaki socks may be worn.
*On Fridays, students will have the option of wearing a Central Hinds t-shirt or sweatshirt, if desired. Khaki bottoms must still be worn.
*Boys must be clean-cut at all times and must not have beards, mustaches, or sideburns that come below the bottom of the ear. Students must wear their hair in a clean and orderly fashion with no unusual colors or designs.
*The length of hair for males will be no longer than the base of the neck and no ponytails are allowed; their hair should fall no lower than the eyebrows when pulled straight down.
*Male students cannot wear an earring or earrings. Body piercing and tattoos are prohibited. Female students may wear two earrings per ear.
*Any clothing that in the opinion of the administration interferes with or disrupts the learning process is forbidden.
*At certain times, some teams/squads may be permitted to wear team uniforms and/or shirts. This exception must be approved by the team sponsor and the CHA administration.

The dress code cannot cover every possible situation, and we are well aware of this fact. We make every effort to keep the number of rules to a minimum. We will have a learning environment, and numerous dress code violations can lead to more serious punishments being given.

When a student receives a discipline notice about hair, they will have one week from the date to get it cut or receive 5 dermits each week afterwards until it is cut.
