Academic and Graduation Awards


Central Hinds Academy stresses academic excellence through its staff and students. Students who maintain honor roll or headmaster's list status for the entire year will be recognized at Class Day. Grades K-4 through 6th will be recognized at a school honorary program. The top 2 students in each grade with the highest number of AR points with 85% pass rate will be recognized at the year end Awards Day program.

Athletic Awards are presented to students in grades 7-12 at the Fall and Spring Athletic Banquets.

The top ten senior students each year will be recognized at Class Day with a plaque known as the TOP TEN COUGAR AWARD. This award is given to the 10 seniors with the highest cumulative grade point average.

Five seniors will receive the COUGAR SPIRIT AWARD. This award is given to those seniors who have displayed good citizenship, school spirit, participated in school activities, and have maintained a numerical average of eighty (80) or higher for the last four (4) years.

Five seniors will receive the COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD. This award is given to those 5 seniors who have the highest number of community service hours. The senior with the highest number of service will be nominated for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award & Scholarship.

DAR - Daughers of American Revolution - Good Citizenship Award will be presentd to a high school student and a junior high student.

Principal's Leadership Award - This award is presented to a student in the senior class.

VALEDICTORIAN: The senior who has attended CHA for at least two (2) years
(junior and senior) and has maintained the highest numerical average in the college preparatory curriculum.

SALUTATORIAN: The senior who has attended CHA for at least two (2) years
(junior and senior) and has the second highest average in the college preparatory curriculum.

STAR Student: The senior with the highest ACT score by Jan 15 of his/her senior year. If more than one student has the highest ACT score, the student with the highest ACT score and GPA will be named the STAR student. The STAR student will choose his/her STAR teacher.


The college prep curriculum is made up of the following:

· 4 units of English
· 4 units of Math to include Algebra 1, Algebra II, and Geometry
· 4 units of Science to include Biology, Biology II or Anatomy and Physiology, and Chemistry
· 4 units of Social Studies to include American History, World History, and American Government/Economics or Geography, State Government
· 2 units of Required Electives to include Foreign Language, Advanced World Geography, Advanced Chemistry,
· ½ unit of Computer Applications
. 1 Fine Art
· English IV cannot be taken by correspondence, nor at the Education Center, nor during summer school. Seniors: the last 4 courses MUST be taken at Central Hinds Academy or under the Dual Enrollment program at Hinds Communit College.
