Mississippi Public Universities Admission Standards
| These admission standards apply to high school graduates who apply for regular admission to state universities: |

| |
| English | | 4 required units - All must require substantial communication skills components (i.e., reading, writing, listening, and speaking) |
|
| |
| Math | | 4 required units - To include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Advanced Math/Trigonometry. A fifth, higher-level math class is highly recommended. |
|
| |
| Science | | 4 required units - Biology, Chemistry, and choice of Physical Science, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology II, Chemistry II, Physics, or any other science course with comparable rigor and content. |
|
| |
| Social Studies | | 4 required units - Courses should include United States History (1 Unit), World History (1 Unit with substantial geography component), Government (1/2 Unit), and Economics (1/2 Unit) or Geography (1/2 Unit), and Mississippi History (1/2). |
|
| |
| Advanced Electives | | 2 required units - Requirements may be met by earning 2 Carnegie units from the following areas/courses, one of which must be in Foreign Language or Advanced World Geography, 5th year lab based Science, 5th year Mathematics. |
|
| |
| Computer Applications | | 1/2 required unit - Course should emphasize computer as a productivity tool. Instruction should include use of application packages, such as word processing and spread sheets. The course should also include basic computer terminology and hardware operation. (Keyboarding is not sufficient to meet this requirement) |
|
| |
| ART | | Includes 1 unit of visual and performing arts course. |

| |
| 8th grade credits accepted | | 8th grade units of pre-algebra, Algebra I, computer, or first year foreign language taken in eighth grade will be accepted for college admission, and MS Studies taken in seventh or eighth grade will also be accepted for college admission. 1 carnegie unit towards graduation is earned upon successfully completing each course. |

| Students wishing to apply for admission to MIssissippi universities but not meeting the above standards should contact their counselor or the university of their choice for information on provisional admission. |
